Biography of Pavel Palaguta

Pavel Palaguta was born on January 4, 1924, in the village of Fominke, Millerovsky District, Rostov Oblast, in a peasant family. He attended the first grade in the school of his hometown. In 1935, his family moved to the village of Vodyanoye in Krasnodon District. Since there was no seven-year school in the village, Pavel had to commute to the city of Krasnodon. He enrolled in the 5th grade of School No. 2 named after S. M. Kirov. Although the daily train ride took up a lot of his time, he excelled in his studies. From an early age, Pavel developed a passion for drawing and raising pigeons. He was also interested in radio technology and dreamed of seriously studying this field. After completing the seven-year school, he continued his education in the 8th grade of School No. 1 named after A. M. Gorky. In 1940, Pavel joined the Komsomol (Young Communist League), and a year later, he and his family moved to the Semeykino station in Krasnodon District.

Involvement in the Underground Organization

In the summer of 1942, as the enemy approached Voroshilovgrad Oblast and the threat of occupation loomed over Krasnodon, Pavel's father, Feodosiy Ivanovich, evacuated with the documentation and material valuables of the state farm. Pavel went with his father, but their attempt to escape far away was unsuccessful. They were stopped by the Nazis in Rodakovo. During the bombing, Pavel's father died, and Pavel returned home, where the Germans were already in control. In early October, Pavel Palaguta became a member of the underground organization "Young Guard." At the headquarters' assignment, he found a job at the state farm, initially working in the harvest and later as a machine gunner in the workshops. Alongside his comrades-in-arms Nikolay Mironov and Vasily Tkachev, Pavel conducted agitation work among the farm workers and wrote and distributed leaflets.

Underground Activities and Arrest

In October, upon the instructions of the underground group leaders in Krasnodon, the young guards of Semeykino station organized the sabotage of bread at the loading point. Palaguta actively participated in this operation, collecting weapons and gathering information about the advancement of the German troops by railway. On January 18, 1943, Pavel Palaguta was arrested. During a search of his house, radio receiver parts were found. From the Semeykino administration, Pavel was transferred to the police in the village of Krasnoye, and then to Novosvetlovka. After interrogations and torture, he was executed in the Krasnodon District in January 1943. The exact location of his death and burial remains unknown.

Pavel Fedoseevich Palaguta was posthumously awarded the "Partisan of the Great Patriotic War" Medal of the 1st degree.
