Penny Pritzker: A Leading Businesswoman and Philanthropist
Early Life and EducationBorn in 1959 in the United States, Penny Pritzker is the granddaughter of Abram Nicholas Pritzker and niece of Jay Pritzker. She graduated from Castilleja School in 1977 and earned an economics degree from Harvard University in 1981.
Business Career
After completing her education, Pritzker became a partner in the family business, Pritzker Realty Group. She also has a stake in the Wm. Wrigley, Jr. confectionery corporation. In 1987, she established Hyatt Hotels' subsidiary, Classic Residence by Hyatt.
Pritzker serves as the chairman of the board of Prism Mortgage and Coast to Coast. She is also the owner of several commercial real estate ventures.
Philanthropy and Civic Engagement
Pritzker is an active philanthropist and has been involved in the restoration of Chicago's central park and the construction of Chicago skyscrapers. She is the founder and chairman of The Pritzker Traubert Foundation, which supports organizations that promote education, the arts, and conservation.
Since 2002, Pritzker has served as the senior advisor to the dean of Harvard University.
Political Involvement
Pritzker has been a strong supporter of Democratic candidates and has served as the finance chair for Barack Obama's presidential campaigns.
Personal Life
Pritzker is married to Dr. Bryan Traubert and resides in Chicago with her children. She is a member of the wealthy Pritzker family and is one of the richest women in the United States.
