Per Krøldrup: A Journey Through European Football
Early Career and National Team DebutPer Krøldrup, a Danish defender, began his professional career in the lower Danish league with Aalborg Chang. He later joined B-93 in the Danish Superliga. In 2001, Krøldrup moved to Udinese in Italy, where his fellow countryman Martin Jørgensen praised his potential for international play. Krøldrup made his debut for the Danish national team in February 2004 against Turkey and represented his country at the European Championship later that year, though he did not play.
Stint in England and Return to Italy
After the European Championship, Krøldrup signed for Everton in England. However, he struggled to perform consistently and returned to Italy in January 2006, joining Fiorentina, where he reunited with Jørgensen.
Calciopoli Scandal and Contract Extension
Following the Calciopoli scandal in 2006, Fiorentina faced potential relegation to Serie B. Krøldrup initially considered leaving the club, but he reconsidered after the club's successful appeal to remain in the top flight. However, he faced competition from team captain Dario Dainelli for a starting position.
Regular Starter and Contract Extension
With Dainelli's departure, Krøldrup became a regular starter. On May 17, 2010, he extended his contract with Fiorentina until June 30, 2012.
Later Career
On October 2, 2013, Krøldrup joined Olhanense on a free transfer. He made his debut for the Portuguese club on October 26 in a home league match against Arouca.
