Biography of Pete Best

Pete Best, a British rock musician and former drummer of The Beatles, was born on November 24, 1941, in Madras, India. In 1945, his family moved to Liverpool, where his mother, Mona Best, opened a club called The Carbash in their basement. It was at this club that the future Beatles, then known as The Quarrymen, played their first concerts.

On August 12, 1960, Pete Best joined The Beatles, just a day before the start of the band's series of performances in Hamburg. At that time, the group did not have a permanent drummer, and Paul McCartney was searching for a suitable candidate. Pete Best, who was playing with The Black Jacks at The Carbash, was considered the best drummer among those McCartney had seen. He was also considered attractive to potential female fans. After The Black Jacks disbanded, McCartney asked Best to join The Beatles on their tour in Hamburg.

Two years later, on August 16, 1962, Pete Best was replaced by Ringo Starr. The Beatles' manager, Brian Epstein, offered Best the opportunity to become the drummer for The Merseybeats, but he declined. Shortly after, Pete attempted to commit suicide but was saved by his mother and brother. He decided to leave the music industry and became a factory worker in Liverpool.

In 1962, Pete was invited to join Rory Storm & The Hurricanes as their drummer, replacing Ringo Starr, and he accepted. However, he only stayed with the group for a month before joining Lee Curtis & The All Stars. In 1963, this band became the second most popular in Liverpool after The Beatles, and vocalist Curtis received an invitation from Decca Records to record a solo album, forcing him to leave the group. As a result, the remaining musicians formed a new band called Pete Best & The All Stars. They recorded one unsuccessful single before disbanding.

In 1964, Pete Best formed his own group called The Pete Best Four, which later changed its name to The Pete Best Combo, as they added a fifth member.

In 1968, Pete Best decided that family life was more important than music. He left his own project and married a woman named Katie. After getting married, the former Beatles drummer started working in the civil service. Pete soon began appearing in public, giving interviews, and agreed to provide consultations to the creators of the film "Birth of The Beatles".

Twenty years later, in 1988, Pete formed a new band called The Pete Best Band. Currently, Pete Best and The Pete Best Band regularly perform concerts in the United States.
