Early Life and Acting Career

Peter Asher was born in London, England, in 1944. His father was a physician and musician, and his mother was a concert violinist. Asher attended Westminster School and the University of London, where he studied philosophy. From an early age, he showed a talent for acting, making his film debut at the age of eight in "The Planter's Wife." He went on to appear in numerous films, plays, and radio shows.

Music Career with Peter & Gordon

In 1964, Asher's musical career took off when he and Gordon Waller formed the duo Peter & Gordon. The duo's debut single, written by Paul McCartney, reached the top of the UK charts. They went on to release a string of hits, including "I Go to Pieces" and "Woman." Despite their success, Asher remained pessimistic about their longevity.

Business Career: Apple Records and Peter Asher Management

After the breakup of Peter & Gordon in 1968, Asher transitioned into the business world. He joined Apple Records as Head of A&R and became a successful producer. He worked with artists such as James Taylor, Linda Ronstadt, and Cher. In the early 1970s, Asher moved to the United States and founded Peter Asher Management. The company became one of the most successful management firms in the music industry, representing artists such as Diana Ross, Neil Diamond, and Ringo Starr.

Sony Music and Sanctuary Artist Management

In 1995, Asher became Senior Vice President of Sony Music Entertainment. He left Sony in 2002 to become Co-Chairman of Sanctuary Artist Management. In 2007, he joined forces with Simon Renshaw to form Strategic Artist Management, a company that expanded its reach beyond music.

Personal Life

Asher briefly dated Millie Small. His daughter, Victoria, is a musician and plays in the punk band Cobra Starship.
