Biography of Peter Ingwersen
Peter Ingwersen was born in 1962 in Copenhagen, Denmark. He spent his childhood near Kolding and later graduated from the Danish School of Design.
Early Career
Ingwersen began his professional career with an internship at Levi's in Brussels, Belgium. Over the next 20 years, he worked his way up to become the director of European Levi's, based in Brussels.
Establishing 'NOIR' and 'ILLUMINATI II'
In 2001, Ingwersen returned to his hometown and became the director of the brand 'DAY Birger et Mikkelsen'. Three years later, in 2004, he founded his own fashion label called 'NOIR' and also launched the brand 'ILLUMINATI II'. The latter aimed to combine high fashion with environmentally sustainable cotton fabrics. 'ILLUMINATI II' is known for its collaboration with Ugandan fabric developers, creating fabrics that are both eco-friendly and ethnically inspired.
The Focus on Ethical Fashion
Ingwersen believes in fashion that goes beyond the production of beautiful and original clothing. The cotton he supplies to various fashion brands from Uganda has gained popularity and is considered a fashionable and expensive fabric. The production of this cotton is labor-intensive, starting with its cultivation in Uganda and later being transformed into fabric in Turkey. Despite the relatively high cost, it remains in demand in the fashion world. Ingwersen's idea of working with developing African countries is well thought out and forms the foundation of his brand.
Unique Fashion Show
In 2010, Ingwersen organized a captivating show at the Copenhagen Fashion Week. His models appeared on the runway wearing only underwear and gradually dressed themselves in front of the astonished audience. This reverse striptease concept aimed to demonstrate how one can dress with taste in an elegant and accessible way.
