Biography of Petr Akopov

Petr Akopov was born on October 7, 1968, in Moscow. He began his education at the Moscow State Historical-Archival Institute while also working at the Central Military-Historical Archive. Akopov started his writing career in 1991 after his first assignment covering a small war in South Ossetia. Initially, he took offense at being called a "journalist," but over time, he learned to ignore such labels.

Despite his right-wing conservative and nationalist political views, Akopov worked for the so-called "democratic press" including newspapers like "Golos" and "Rossiiskie Vesti." However, he left "in protest against the coup d'état" in October 1993, which he still supports to this day. He also contributed to "Novaya Gazeta." His areas of interest include politics, national conflicts, the Russian right-wing movement (which never fully emerged), and international politics.

In 1994, Akopov decided to take a break from journalism as he felt there was no place for him to write about the country's happenings from a "non-democratic position" (excluding "Sovetskaya Rossiya" and "Zavtra"). In 1998, disillusioned by the widespread corruption and lack of ideas among his colleagues and the profession itself, he joined "Nezavisimaya Gazeta," focusing on regional politics and occasionally attempting to publish something unconventional, such as interviews with Barkashov or Limonov.

From February 2000, Akopov worked in the politics department of "Izvestiya." In the fall of 2001, he became a participant in the "Agentura.Ru" project. Since September 2002, he has been a columnist for the magazine "Novaya Model." In April 2003, he was appointed the chief editor of the program "Vivody" on the television channel "Tretiy Kanal." In the fall of 2003, Akopov joined the "Political Journal" as a special correspondent under the chief editor. In 2007, he was appointed the chief editor of the "Political Journal."
