Borkovec (born in 1952) commenced his academic journey at Charles University's Faculty of Philosophy but left the program uncompleted. His intellectual curiosity soon led him to pursue journalism and editing, where he flourished from 1992 onwards.
Literary Career
From 2004 to 2005, Borkovec resided in Berlin as a writer in residence thanks to a DAAD scholarship. During this period, he dedicated himself to translating ancient Korean poets, venerated Greek tragedians (Aeschylus, Sophocles), and notable Russian poets (Khodasiewicz, Gippius, Nabokov, Brodsky, and more).
International Recognition
Borkovec's poetic works resonated beyond the borders of Czech Republic, finding an audience in German and English translations. His literary achievements garnered prestigious awards, including the Jiří Orten Prize (1995), Hubert Burda Prize (2001), and Josef Jungmann Prize (2004).
