Sergei Serbsky: A Pioneer in Russian Psychiatry
Sergei Serbsky, a distinguished Russian psychiatrist, was a disciple of renowned physicians S.S. Korsakov and V.P. Serbsky. He graduated from Moscow University in 1898 and went on to become a professor of psychiatry.
Director of Prestigious Psychiatric Institutions
From 1918, Serbsky served as the director of the psychiatric clinic at Moscow University. He later took the helm of the 1st Moscow Medical Institute in 1930. His leadership and contributions significantly shaped these institutions.
Founder of the School of Small Psychiatry
Sergei Serbsky is recognized for his creation of the original psychiatric school. This school placed emphasis on the study of minor mental disorders, known as "small psychiatry." He believed that these conditions, while less severe than major psychiatric illnesses, required attention and treatment.
Expert on Pathological Characters
Serbsky's work also focused on the study of pathological characters. In his seminal book, "Clinic of Psychopathies: Their Statics, Dynamics, and Systematics," he proposed a classification of abnormal personality types. This classification included:
