Soviet Statesman

Petr Stepanovich Neporozhny was a prominent Soviet statesman who held various high-ranking positions throughout his career.

Early Career

Neporozhny began his career in the 1920s, holding positions such as courier, head of the accounting department at the regional committee of the Russian Communist Party (Bolsheviks), and political commissar of an anti-banditry unit. He also worked as head of the department at the regional committee of the Komsomol.

Industrial Leadership

In the 1930s, Neporozhny transitioned to the industrial sector, working at the "Krasny Vyborzhec" factory in Leningrad. He later became director of the Kolchuginsky Non-Ferrous Metal Plant.

Ministry of Non-Ferrous Metallurgy

Neporozhny's career took a major turn in 1939 when he was appointed head of the Main Directorate of the Aluminum, Magnesium, and Electrode Industry. He was subsequently promoted to deputy minister of the USSR Ministry of Non-Ferrous Metallurgy. From 1940 to 1948, he served as minister of non-ferrous metallurgy of the USSR.

Postwar Career

Following the war, Neporozhny continued to hold leadership roles in the metallurgical industry. He was first deputy minister of the USSR Ministry of Metallurgical Industry and later minister of non-ferrous metallurgy of the USSR from 1950 to 1953 and from 1954 to 1957.

Economic Reformer

In the late 1950s and early 1960s, Neporozhny took on broader economic roles, serving as chairman of the Krasnoyarsk Regional Economic Council and deputy chairman of the Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party for the Russian Soviet Federated Socialist Republic. He was also chairman of the State Scientific and Economic Council of the USSR Council of Ministers.

Deputy Prime Minister

From 1962 to 1965, Neporozhny was deputy chairman of the USSR Council of Ministers. In this capacity, he also served as chairman of the USSR State Planning Committee (Gosplan).

Final Years in Government

Neporozhny returned to his role as minister of non-ferrous metallurgy of the USSR in 1965, a position he held until his retirement in October 1986.

Political and Civic Life

Neporozhny was a member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union from 1925. He became a candidate member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party in 1952 and a full member from 1969 to 1989. He was also a deputy of the USSR Supreme Soviet from 1946 to 1950 and from 1954 to 1989.

Neporozhny was awarded the title of Hero of Socialist Labor in 1974 for his contributions to the development of the Soviet non-ferrous metallurgy industry.
