Biography of Philip Niarchos
Philip Niarchos is a Greek entrepreneur and collector, known for being the richest Greek according to Forbes magazine in 2015. His fortune is estimated at $2.6 billion. Born into a wealthy family, Philip is the eldest son of Greek shipping magnate Stavros Niarchos and his wife Eugenia Livanos. Eugenia is the eldest daughter of Stavros G. Livanos, Stavros Niarchos' main competitor.

Philip Niarchos is primarily known for his passion for art collecting. He specializes in acquiring works of art, building upon the impressive collection started by his father, Stavros. At the time, Stavros' collection was considered one of the most outstanding private collections of impressionist and contemporary masters. One of the collection's highlights was Pablo Picasso's self-portrait "Yo, Picasso," purchased in 1989 for $47.85 million.
Philip not only preserved his father's collection but also expanded it. Although the complete list of masterpieces in his collection remains private, there is speculation that Philip anonymously purchased Vincent van Gogh's self-portrait at auction for $71.5 million. It is practically confirmed that he acquired Jean-Michel Basquiat's self-portrait, which sold for $3.3 million.
