Pierre Pflimlin: A Biography
Early Life and Political CareerPierre Pflimlin was born on February 5, 1907, in Roubaix, France. A Christian democrat, he emerged as a prominent political figure during the Fourth Republic. In May 1958, he was appointed Prime Minister of France, becoming the de facto last leader of the republic.
Prime Ministership
Pflimlin's premiership was short-lived, lasting only a few weeks. During the 1958 Algerian Crisis, he was replaced by Charles de Gaulle, who initiated constitutional changes.

Post-Premiership
Following his resignation as Prime Minister, Pflimlin embarked on a long and distinguished career in local and European politics. He served as Mayor of Strasbourg for over 20 years (1959-1983), becoming the city's first Catholic mayor in its history. From 1984 to 1987, he was President of the European Parliament, headquartered in Strasbourg.
Pierre Pflimlin passed away on June 27, 2000, in Strasbourg, France, at the age of 93.
