Early Life and Education

Mari Kiviniemi was born in Seinajoki, Finland, and completed her secondary education at Yläsjärvi High School. Subsequently, she participated in an exchange program in Germany. In 1988, Kiviniemi enrolled in the University of Helsinki, pursuing a degree in economics. She later relocated to Helsinki and specialized in political science, focusing on public policy.

Political Career

Minister of Foreign Trade and Development

Kiviniemi's political career commenced in 2005 when she assumed the role of Minister of Foreign Trade and Development.

Minister of Local Government

On April 19, 2007, she was appointed Minister of Local Government.
Prime Minister of Finland (2010-2011)

On June 12, 2010, Kiviniemi was elected Chairwoman of the Centre Party of Finland. On June 22, 2010, she succeeded Matti Vanhanen as Prime Minister of Finland, becoming the 63rd Prime Minister and the second woman to hold the position after Anneli Jatteenmäki in 2003.

Personal Life

Mari Kiviniemi is married to Juha Louhivuori, and they have two children together, Hanna (born 1997) and Antti (born 2000). She also has two stepsons, Värneri and Valtteri, from Louhivuori's previous marriage.
