Early Life and Football Journey
Born on December 25, 1932, in Amsterdam, Piet Burgers was the fourth child out of ten siblings. Introduced to football through local club DVV, he joined the Amsterdam Youth Team at 16, showcasing his impressive scoring abilities.
Debut with Ajax
In 1951, Burgers made his debut for DVV's first team before moving to the legendary Ajax two years later. Under the guidance of Karl Humenberger, he honed his skills through the club's second and third compositions.
Remarkable Debut with Ajax
On March 16, 1954, Burgers was surprisingly included in the first-team squad. He marked his Eredivisie debut on March 21, 1954, against Stormvogels, showcasing his talent with a goal. In the 1954-55 season, he emerged as the team's top scorer with 17 goals in 21 games.
Transfer to 't Goy
Burgers' successful spell at Ajax concluded in 1956 with a transfer to 't Goy from Hilversum. He spent five seasons with the club, leading them to victory in the second division in 1958-59, where he also became the league's top scorer with 30 goals.
Coaching Career and Personal Life
Post-retirement, Burgers pursued a coaching career in amateur football, mentoring clubs such as STO'70, Rombaut, Spartan, RAP, and ASVA. He married Riene Visser in Amsterdam, having two children before they later divorced. Burgers passed away on June 29, 2015, at the age of 82, leaving behind a legacy in Dutch football.
