Biography of Hristo Stoichkov
Early Life and CareerHristo Stoichkov, lovingly called "Itso" by his friends, was born in the city of Plovdiv, Bulgaria. According to his mother Penka, Hristo was born with a ball. His father was a goalkeeper for the local team Maritsa Plovdiv. As a young boy, Hristo often served balls to the adults, but by the age of 10, his talent had developed to the point where he started playing himself. In 1984, Hristo began playing for the Bulgarian team Hebar, where he caught the attention of the CSKA Sofia coach.

In 1992, he was chosen as the best football player in the world. In 1994, Hristo represented the Bulgarian national team and won a bronze medal at the World Cup in the USA.
