Early Life and Career at the Club "Holland"

Pieter Cornelis van den Broeke, affectionately known as "Piet," was born on October 13, 1887, in Amsterdam, Netherlands. His father, a port worker from Breskens, and his mother, hailing from Winschoten, raised Piet alongside five siblings in a simple working-class family.

Piet's footballing journey began with the amateur club "Holland," where he showcased his prowess during the 1907/08 season. Holland triumphed in the Amsterdam-based "Gouden Kruis" tournament, defeating the formidable Ajax 3-1 in the final.

Transition to Ajax

After Holland's merger with Ajax in July 1908, Piet joined the legendary Amsterdam club alongside several of his former teammates. He made his Ajax debut in September of that year at the "Zilveren Bal" tournament in Rotterdam.

Initially assigned to the "Ajax 2" squad, Piet was later recalled to the first team and played a pivotal role in their promotion to the first class of Dutch football. In the inaugural season, he emerged as the team's leading scorer with 9 goals in 15 appearances.

Later Years and Retirement

Despite his contributions to the club's success, Piet's time at Ajax ended in 1912. He briefly played for "Blau-Wit" and "De Spartanen" before retiring from professional football in 1922 at the age of 35.
