Pontus Jansson: A Swedish Star on the Pitch
Pontus Jansson is a Swedish football player who currently plays as a central defender for Leeds United in the Premier League and the Sweden national team.
Early Career and Debut
Jansson began his football journey at Malmö FF. To gain playing experience, he was loaned out to IFK Malmö in 2009. On September 14, he made his debut in the Allsvenskan against Djurgården. The following year, he scored his first goal for Malmö against Mjällby on May 15.
Success with Malmö
Jansson helped Malmö win the Swedish championship in 2010. He earned another title in 2013, along with the Swedish Super Cup. In the summer of 2014, he joined Italian club Torino on a free transfer.
Serie A Debut and Goal
He made his Serie A debut on October 19, 2014, against Udinese. On April 30, 2016, he netted his first goal for Torino, again against Udinese.
Arrival at Leeds United
Jansson spent the 2016-17 season on loan at Leeds United in the English Championship. He marked his debut against Huddersfield Town on September 10 and scored his maiden goal for the club on November 5 against Norwich City. After the loan spell, he penned a three-year contract with Leeds.
International Debut and EURO 2016
Jansson made his international debut for Sweden in a friendly against Bahrain on January 18, 2012. He was included in the squad for EURO 2016 but served primarily as a reserve player.
