Early Life and Education

Born on June 21, 1980, in Isleworth, London, Priya Kalidas's childhood was spent in the Twickenham suburb. Of Gujarati descent, Kalidas's father worked as a financial consultant, while her mother was an airline manager.

From a young age, Kalidas pursued her artistic passions, studying vocal and classical dance at age three, and later, step dance at age five. She attended Sylvia Young Theatre School and the now-defunct Songtime Theatre Arts School.

Film and Music Career

Kalidas's acting debut came in the 1993 mini-series "Bulged in Ears." In 1999, she portrayed one of Nazir's brides in the commercially successful dramedy "East Is East." That same year, she appeared in the similarly themed film "Virtual Sexuality" and the television series "Metrosexuality."

2002 proved to be a prolific year for Kalidas. She played Monica in Gurinder Chadha's "Bend It Like Beckham" and starred in the musical melodramas "Bollywood Queen" and "Bombay Dreams." The latter film, co-written and produced by Andrew Lloyd Webber, became one of Kalidas's most significant roles.

Her television credits include 132 episodes as Amira Shah (later Masood) in "EastEnders" and two appearances in the British medical drama "Casualty," playing Sherilyn Tilson and Sonia Egan, respectively.

In 2013, Kalidas took on the titular role in the musical film "Bollywood Carmen." Her notable musical singles include "Shakalaka Baby" from "Bombay Dreams" and a cover of "Shimmy" by Janet Leon.
