Priyanshi Somani is an Indian teenage girl who holds the record for being the fastest human calculator in the world. She was born in 1998 in Surat, Gujarat, India, to a wealthy Indian family. Her father, Satyen Somani, is a businessman, and her mother's name is Anju Somani.
Early Interest in Mathematics
Priyanshi developed a keen interest in mathematics at a young age. By the age of 6, she was already demonstrating her incredible abilities to mentally calculate large numbers. Her talent for mental calculation became increasingly evident as she grew older.
World Championship Success
In 2010, at the age of 12, Priyanshi participated in the Mental Calculation World Cup, held in Magdeburg, Germany. This competition is considered the most significant event for individuals with exceptional mental calculation skills. Despite being the youngest participant, Priyanshi outperformed 37 adult competitors from 16 countries. She achieved a remarkable feat by scoring 100% correct answers in addition, multiplication, and square root calculations. This record remained unbroken for several consecutive years.
Recognition and Achievements
Priyanshi's outstanding achievements brought her recognition in India and worldwide. Her name was included in the Guinness Book of World Records and the Indian equivalent, the 'Limca Book of World Records.' In 2011, she was chosen as the ambassador of India for the World Maths Day.
Priyanshi received numerous awards, including the 'Pogo Amazing Kids Awards' in the category of 'Genius' and a bronze medal at the 5th International Young Mathematicians' Convention in 2012. Her remarkable ability also earned her a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in the same year.
