The Genesis of a Musical Legacy
The formation of the rock band, Птица Си, traces its humble beginnings to the dawn of 1991. A historic rehearsal session took place at Shurka Timofeev's abode on Bogatyrskiy Prospekt, marking the genesis of their musical journey.
The Name Unveiled
While the band had taken shape, the name "Птица Си" emerged months later, in the warmth of May. As the bandmates walked home, the lead singer, Katie Trend, proposed the moniker, inspired by her greenpeace t-shirt. The name, like an omen, resonated with the group and has remained their identity ever since. The "птица" (bird) represents Tony, the bassist, while "Си" is simply a name devoid of any specific meaning.
Evolving Rosters
Throughout its history, Птица Си has seen numerous members come and go. Some departed due to personal circumstances, others were swept away by the winds of change, and a few were even asked to leave. At the time of this writing, the band's lineup comprises Katie Trend, Tony, and Gustav.
Katie Trend: The Voice and Vision
Katie Trend, the charismatic lead singer and guitarist, is the heart and soul of Птица Си. Her lyrical prowess and musical compositions form the foundation of their sound. Katie's persona defies gender stereotypes, embracing a childlike innocence rather than the usual feminine allure.
Tony: The Bassist and Philosopher
Tony, the bassist, is the longest-serving member of the band, having played alongside Katie since 1989. His signature beard and beret have become iconic symbols of the group. Tony's switch to a fretless bass has added a distinctive touch to their music.
Gustav: The Percussionist and Jester
Gustav, a former bassist, has settled into the role of percussionist and mischief-maker. Together with Tony, they form a dynamic duo, capable of injecting bursts of energy and humor into their performances.
Pechkin: The Fluetist
Pechkin, the fluetist, joined the band after the departure of a previous member. Her instrument, the transverse flute, blends harmoniously with Katie's alto flute, creating a captivating duet.
Basil: The Shamanic Percussionist
Basil, the most recent addition to the group, brings a shamanic dimension to their music. His booming shamanic drum and jingling soundscapes add depth and mystery to their performances.
Beyond the Stage
While the musicians take center stage, other individuals have played crucial roles behind the scenes. Larisa Vinarova, a loyal friend, has secured concerts, sponsorship, and the creation of Katie's custom guitar. Sergei Rusakov of the "Triton" studio crafted Katie's dream guitar, while Dima transformed Tony's Iolana into a fretless bass.
The Enduring Spirit
Птица Си remains a testament to the power of music and the bonds formed within a group. Despite challenges and fluctuations in membership, the band has persevered, creating a unique and enduring legacy in the world of rock.
