Early Life and Ancestry
Astrakhan Khanwas the son of Seid-Ahmed and the grandson of Akhmat, a prominent ruler of the Golden Horde.
Rise to Power
In the 1520s, Astrakhan Khan seized power with the assistance of the Nogay Horde, a nomadic people who inhabited the northern steppes of Eurasia.
Diplomatic Relations
In 1531 or 1532, Astrakhan Khan wrote a letter to the Ottoman Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent, seeking diplomatic recognition and support.
Downfall and Death
Despite his efforts, Astrakhan Khan's reign came to an abrupt end in 1532. He was overthrown and killed by Ak-Kubek, who established a rival dynasty in Astrakhan.
