Rachel Stirling is an English stage, film, and television actress. Born on May 30, 1977, in London, she is the daughter of actors Diana Rigg and Archie Stirling, who hailed from a lineage dating back to a humble Scottish parishioner in the village of Lecropt. Rachel attended Wycombe Abbey School and the University of Edinburgh, where she earned a Master of Arts degree in Art History.

Stage Debut and Early Roles

Stirling made her significant stage debut in 1996, playing Desdemona in the National Youth Theatre's revival of "Othello" alongside Chiwetel Ejiofor. In 1997, she portrayed Olive in the female version of "The Odd Couple," followed by her portrayal of Kate in "Dancing at Lughnasa" in 1998, which earned praise from The Stage as "a rich, affecting performance."

Screen Breakthrough and Television Career

Her on-screen debut occurred in the British comedy "This Year's Love" (1999), starring alongside Billy Connolly and Stephen Rea.
