Political Views and Controversies
Sikorski is known for his conservative views and has caused tensions in Polish-Russian and Polish-German relations. He referred to the signing of the agreement to build the Nord Stream gas pipeline as the "new Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact". However, in Poland, it is believed that Sikorski takes a more pro-Russian position than his predecessors. For example, his statement in late March 2009, expressing his desire to see Russia as a member of NATO, received widespread attention.
