Early Career and Bayern Munich:Raimond Aumann, a German footballer, began his career as a goalkeeper with Bayern Munich's youth team in 1980. Two years later, he signed a professional contract with the club. However, he faced stiff competition from renowned goalkeepers like Manfred Müller, Walter Junghans, and Jean-Marie Pfaff.
Battling for the Number One Spot:
In September 1982, Junghans left the team, followed by Müller in the summer of 1984. Only Aumann and Pfaff remained, engaging in a fierce battle for the starting position. Their rivalry lasted until Pfaff's departure in 1988.
Bundesliga Debut and Captaincy:
Aumann made his Bundesliga debut with Bayern Munich on August 25, 1984, in a match against Arminia. Although he seemed poised to become the first-choice goalkeeper, Pfaff's authority prevailed, leaving Aumann mainly as his substitute during injuries. However, after Pfaff's departure, Aumann became the undisputed number one. From 1992 onward, he also served as the team captain.
Move to Beşiktaş and Retirement:
With the signing of Oliver Kahn in 1994, Aumann decided to leave Bayern Munich. He joined Turkish club Beşiktaş, but an injury during preseason sidelined him for half a year. After playing a full season, he decided to retire from professional football.
International Career:
Aumann made his debut for the German national team in a friendly against Ireland on September 6, 1989. He played only one full match for Germany, a 3-1 victory over Sweden on October 10, 1990. Despite being part of the 1990 World Cup-winning squad, he never appeared on the field.
