Early Career and Lazio
Fernando Muslera was a promising goalkeeper from Uruguay. In 2007, he transferred to the Italian club Lazio for a remarkable €3 million. Despite a promising start, a disastrous performance against AC Milan resulted in Muslera losing his starting position for the remainder of the season.
Return to Form and Lazio Glory
In 2008, with the arrival of Juan Pablo Carrizo, Muslera once again found himself on the sidelines. However, after a string of strong performances, Muslera regained his starting position. He played a pivotal role in Lazio's victory in the 2008/09 Coppa Italia, making several crucial saves and denying a penalty in the final against Sampdoria.
Galatasaray Success
In 2011, Muslera joined Galatasaray in Turkey. He quickly established himself as a key player, breaking a club record for the most clean sheets. Muslera lifted the Turkish Süper Lig title in his first season and went on to achieve numerous other accolades with the club, including the Turkish Super Cup and Turkish Cup.
International Career
Muslera made his international debut for Uruguay in 2009, playing a crucial role in their qualification for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. At the World Cup, he kept a clean sheet in the group stage and made two penalty saves in the quarter-finals against Ghana.
Muslera remains the undisputed number one goalkeeper for Uruguay. He was part of the team that won the 2011 Copa América and has participated in numerous other international tournaments, including the World Cup and the Confederations Cup.
