Dr. Rainer Zitelmann: A Historian, Author, and Entrepreneur

Early Life and Education

Rainer Zitelmann was born in Frankfurt am Main in 1957 to a writer and theologian. During his school years, he was an ardent supporter of Mao Zedong's teachings.

From 1978 to 1986, Zitelmann studied history and political science at the Technical University of Darmstadt. He earned his doctorate in natural and historical sciences with the highest distinction under the supervision of Dr. Karl Otmer von Aretin. His dissertation was published as a book titled "Hitler: The Policies of Seduction."

Academic and Editorial Career

From 1987 to 1992, Zitelmann worked as a research assistant at the Central Institute for Social Research at the Free University of Berlin. In 1992-93, he became editor-in-chief and a board member of the publishing houses Ullstein and Propyläen.

Shortly after, Zitelmann joined the leading German daily newspaper Die Welt, where he headed various departments, culminating in the real estate section.

Business Endeavors

In 2000, Zitelmann founded Dr. ZitelmannPB. GmbH, which became a leading provider of communication consulting for real estate agencies in Germany. In 2016, he sold the company through a management buyout.

Zitelmann himself has been a successful real estate investor, particularly in Berlin. Between 1999 and 2009, he acquired residential properties at bargain prices and sold a substantial portion in 2015, amassing a sizable fortune.

Second Doctorate and Research

In 2016, Zitelmann earned a second doctorate, this time in sociology (Dr. rer. soc.) with distinction. His dissertation, titled "Personality and Behavioral Patterns of the German Financial Elite," was supervised by Professor Wolfgang Lauterbach, a leading German researcher on wealth, at the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences of the University of Potsdam. The research was also published in English under the title "The Wealth Elite."
