Raisa Bogatyreva, born on January 6, 1953 in the city of Bakal, Chelyabinsk oblast (RSFSR), is a Ukrainian political and state figure. She comes from a working-class family. In 1959, her family moved to Kramatorsk, Donetsk oblast.
She entered the Lugansk Medical Institute and later transferred to the Kharkiv Medical Institute, where she graduated in 1977. In 1996, she defended her candidate dissertation, and in 2000, she obtained a doctorate in medicine. She also has a second degree in law.
After completing her studies, Bogatyreva worked as a doctor and later became the deputy chief doctor in charge of organizing assistance to children and mothers. In 1990, she was first elected as a member of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. From 1994 to 1999, she held the position of Deputy Minister of Health of Ukraine, and from 1999 to 2000, she served as Minister of Health. She also served as a scientific consultant to President Leonid Kuchma.
During the 2004 presidential elections, Bogatyreva became the trusted representative of presidential candidate Viktor Yanukovych. She later assumed the position of Deputy Head of the Party of Regions faction. Since December 2007, she has been the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.
Bogatyreva is married to Igor Aleksandrovich, who is the First Deputy Director General of the Ukrainian Entrepreneurship Support Fund. They have two sons, Igor and Aleksandr (born in 1977). One of her sons, Aleksandr, is a deputy of the Kyiv City Council since 2006.
Bogatyreva has received several honors and awards, including the "Honored Doctor of Ukraine" title and the State Prize of Ukraine in the field of science and technology. She has also been awarded the Order of Princess Olga of the third degree and is an Honorary Citizen of Donetsk Oblast (2007).
