Ramesh Chandra: A Biography
Ramesh Chandra, the owner of the construction company "Unitech Ltd", is currently one of the wealthiest individuals in India. Born in 1941 in India, he completed his education at the university in Kharagpur. Afterward, he worked in Kolkata for several years before moving to the United Kingdom to further his knowledge in the field of civil engineering.
In 1965, Ramesh Chandra returned to India and joined the State Research Center in Roorkee as an employee. After a few years of working at the research center, he decided to venture into entrepreneurship and established his consulting firm. In the 1970s, he gradually entered the construction business and founded the company "Unitech Ltd". Shortly after, he began acquiring land in the Gurgaon area.
In the 1990s, Ramesh Chandra started the construction of middle-class housing and successfully completed his first commercial complex, the "Global Business Park", in 1996. Over the years, his company expanded and gained a significant share of real estate across the country. Currently, Ramesh Chandra has taken a step back from the business and entrusted its management to his sons.
In the near future, the company is developing a network of "Marriott" hotels, with 28 hotels planned to be built within four years. This project requires substantial investments as the hotels are expected to be luxury-class. Additionally, their construction firm is involved in the development and construction of prestigious mansions in the outskirts of Delhi.
Ramesh Chandra is the founder of a multi-billion Indian company engaged in construction and real estate sales. In October 2007, his net worth was estimated at $10.4 billion, making him one of the richest Indians and ranking him eighth in the country. Currently 68 years old, he is married and has two children.
One of Ramesh Chandra's goals is to provide affordable housing for the poor population in India. His company, "Unitech Ltd", plans to build houses priced at 1 million rupees, equivalent to $24,700, which many Indians would be able to afford. According to Ramesh Chandra, there are a significant number of impoverished individuals in India, and this affordable housing initiative would bring considerable benefits to the country's economy and improve the well-being of its people. Additionally, "Unitech Ltd" has plans to establish a vast network of stores and supermarkets within six years.
