Biography of Stephen Bechtel
Stephen Bechtel is a co-owner of the Bechtel Corporation, one of the largest and oldest construction companies in America. He was born in 1925 to Stephen David Bechtel and grandson of Warren A. Bechtel, the founder of the company.
Early Life and Achievements
In his youth, Stephen Bechtel was passionate about hiking and adventures, and he was a member of the Eagle Scout group. In 1940, he achieved the rank of America's top Boy Scout and was awarded the Buffalo Silver Medal. Interestingly, Stephen's brother Kenneth Bechtel also received the same award in 1950 and served as the National President of the Boy Scouts of America from 1956 to 1959.
Education and Career
Stephen Bechtel graduated from Purdue University in 1946 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. He later completed a management program at Stanford University and obtained a scientific degree in management. Since 1948, he has held the title of Certified Business Professional.
During the presidency of Lyndon Baines Johnson, Bechtel was appointed as the President of the Committee on Construction and Urban Real Estate Management. Under Richard Nixon's administration, he became a member of the National Industrial Pollution Control Council. He also served as a member of the National Commission on Productivity and the Industrial National Commission. Gerald Ford had hoped that Bechtel would become the President of the Labor Relations Management Committee.

The company is one of the largest and oldest construction companies in America and has offices in many major cities worldwide, with a total of 50 offices. It is also one of the largest employers, with a staff of approximately 40,000 people. The company generates an annual revenue of around $20.5 billion.
Among the company's notable construction achievements is the Channel Tunnel. Additionally, Bechtel Corporation provided assistance in rebuilding homes for people affected by Hurricane Katrina.
