Early Life and CareerHarold Rance Beckenholdt was born in 1928 in Oklahoma to a farming family. He adopted the stage name "Rance Howard" after embarking on his acting career in New York City in the 1950s. Howard began his acting journey in high school theater and left Oklahoma to pursue his passion in New York.
Television and Film Debut
Howard's first major television appearance was in a 1947 episode of "Kraft Television Theatre." He made his film debut in the 1956 Western "Frontier Woman." In 1965, he starred in the sci-fi comedy "Village of the Giants." Howard became a regular on television, appearing in shows like "Bonanza," "The Andy Griffith Show," and "The F.B.I."
Acclaimed Performances
In 1974, Howard co-starred in Roman Polanski's award-winning thriller "Chinatown" alongside Jack Nicholson and Faye Dunaway. He received another "Oscar" nod in 2001 for his supporting role in "A Beautiful Mind," directed by his son, Ron Howard.

Rance Howard is the father of renowned actors Ron and Clint Howard. His granddaughter, Bryce Dallas Howard, is also an established actress.
