Randy Blake: The Rising Star in Kickboxing
Early Life and InspirationRandy 'Boom Boom' Blake was born on November 25, 1986, in Cleveland, Ohio, United States. At an early age, he moved with his family to Owasso, Oklahoma. Inspired by the movie 'Bloodsport' featuring Jean-Claude Van Damme, Blake started learning karate at the age of seven. At sixteen, he earned a black belt in karate from former world kickboxing champion Dale Cook. Currently, Randy holds a fourth-degree black belt.
Emerging as a Kickboxing Amateur
In 2007, Blake began his amateur kickboxing career. He gained recognition as a member of the 'Oklahoma Destroyers' team in the 2007-2008 season of the World Combat League (WCL). Making his debut in the 88kg weight category, Blake faced Freddie Espiricueta from the 'Texas Dragons' and defeated him with two devastating body shots, earning him the nickname 'Boom Boom'. Blake continued his development and became a prominent fighter in Oklahoma's Xtreme Fighting League (XFL), winning the XFL kickboxing championship in the light heavyweight division.
Professionally Dominating the Ring
With an impressive unbeaten record of 20-0, Randy Blake earned a spot in the International Sport Karate Association (ISKA) World Thai-Boxing Championship in the super heavyweight division (96.4kg). On June 21, 2012, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, he faced Mike Sheppard, who had previously defeated Blake in the WCL. Throughout the match, Blake constantly clinched Sheppard's head and delivered powerful knee strikes, resulting in a severe cut on his opponent's face. The fight was stopped in the fifth round, and Randy Blake was crowned the new champion.
Joining the Ranks of K-1
After his remarkable victory, Randy Blake caught the attention of the Japanese company K-1, the leading kickboxing organization in the world. In 2012, he competed on the K-1 World Grand Prix in Los Angeles on September 8, defeating veteran Dewey Cooper by unanimous decision. Earning a spot in the 'Tokyo Final 16' of the K-1 World Grand Prix, Randy faced Croatian fighter Mirko Filipović, also known as 'Cro Cop', on October 14, 2012. The match ended in the third round when the referee stopped the fight after a knockdown. Despite a controversial low blow from Filipović, the majority of the judges declared Blake the loser, marking his first professional defeat. However, he quickly bounced back on November 16, 2012, defeating K-1 veteran Deutsch Pu'u at 'Xtreme Fight Night 10' in Tulsa.
Road to Glory and Continued Success
Participating in the 'Road to Glory' series, which offered spots in 'Xtreme Fight Night 11' on February 1, 2013, Randy Blake was a fan favorite. However, he was defeated in the quarterfinals by mixed martial arts fighter Dustin Jacoby, who caught him with a powerful strike forcing the referee to stop the fight. Blake was scheduled to face Manuel Quezada at 'Xtreme Fight Night 12' on April 12, 2013, but Quezada was replaced by Jason Broom. Blake delivered a technical knockout in the second round, showcasing his skills. Despite his loss in the 'Road to Glory' series, Randy Blake had a chance to prove himself at 'Glory 9' in New York City on June 22, 2013, against Koichi Pettas. After six weeks of training in the Netherlands, Blake emerged victorious over Pettas by unanimous decision.
