Rafael Guerrero: A Journey from Cannes to Dortmund
Born from a French mother and a Portuguese father, Rafael Guerrero's footballing journey began with the youth academy of Cannes. In 2012, he made his professional debut in Ligue 2, setting the stage for a promising career.
From Cannes to Lorient: A Step Up to Ligue 1
After a successful stint with Cannes, Guerrero joined Lorient in 2013 for a fee of €2.5 million. He quickly established himself in the Ligue 1 side, scoring his first goal against Paris Saint-Germain in 2014.
Borussia Dortmund: A German Adventure
Guerrero's impressive performances caught the attention of Borussia Dortmund, who acquired him in 2016. He became an integral part of the German club, making his Bundesliga debut against Mainz 05 and scoring his first goal for Dortmund in the Champions League against Legia Warsaw. During his debut season, he contributed to Dortmund's DFB-Pokal triumph.
International Recognition: Portugal and Beyond
Guerrero's international career began with his debut for Portugal in 2014, where he also scored his first international goal against Argentina. In 2015, he won the silver medal at the UEFA European Under-21 Championship with Portugal's youth team. A year later, he celebrated the ultimate honor by winning the UEFA European Championship in France. His strong performances continued at the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup, where he helped Portugal reach the semi-finals.
