Career Beginnings and Transition to Snowboarding
Born and raised in the United States, Gerard Redmond initially pursued freestyle skiing before transitioning to snowboarding. His favorite discipline quickly became slopestyle, where he showcased his exceptional skills on the slopes.
Emergence on the World Stage
In 2012, Redmond began competing in the World Snowboard Tour. His breakthrough came in the 2014/15 season, where he secured second place in slopestyle at the US tour. At the 2015 World Snowboarding Championships in Yabuli, China, he finished fourth in slopestyle.
Debut on the World Cup Circuit
Redmond made his World Cup debut in the 2015/16 season, finishing 11th at the Cardrona stage. In February 2016, he achieved a podium finish by placing third at the Big Air ALE INVITE competition.
A String of Notable Accomplishments
In January 2017, Redmond secured third place in slopestyle at a World Cup event. He also participated in the 2017 Winter X Games in Aspen, where he finished 14th. However, his most significant achievement came in February 2017, when he triumphed at the World Cup in Mammoth. To cap off the season, he won the World Championship in slopestyle.
Olympic Glory
At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, Redmond's perseverance paid off. In a thrilling final attempt on the second day of competition, he delivered an impressive score of 87.16, securing the gold medal and the title of Olympic champion in slopestyle.
