Reinhold Seeberg
German theologian
German Theologian
The German theologian attended the theological faculty of the University of Dorpat. He became a Privatdozent in Dorpat, then a professor in Erlangen, and later at the Humboldt University of Berlin.
Definition of Dogma
He defined dogma as an authoritative and church-sanctioned position of Christian doctrine. He considered the history of dogma as a finite era, which ended for Protestantism with the Formula of Concord.
Dogmas as Expressions of Faith
He saw dogmas as expressions of the church's faith. He found a critical standard in the dogmas themselves insofar as they expressed the central Christian truth of salvation.
