Founding Tiscali

In January 1998, after the deregulation of the wired telephone service industry, Soru established the company 'Tiscali'. The company was named after a mountain in Sardinia, where remains of Nuragic settlements dating back to the 6th-4th centuries BCE were discovered.

In March 1999, 'Tiscali' introduced a lucrative internet program called 'Tiscali Free Net', which led to all Italian providers canceling fixed annual subscriptions costing 200,000 lira. This move made the internet more accessible in Italy.

Expansion and New Internet Services

'Tiscali' continued to expand and develop new internet services. In 2013, the company announced the development of a range of new internet services.

Political Career

In 2004, Soru was elected as the president of the Sardinia region, representing a left-center coalition. During his tenure, he promoted an ambitious program to stimulate the island's economy. However, on November 28, 2008, Soru resigned from his position.

In February 2009, Soru attempted to run for the presidency of the Sardinia region again, but Ugo Cappellacci, a representative of the right-center political party 'Popolo della Libertà', was elected as the new president.

Ownership of l'Unità Newspaper

On May 20, 2008, Soru purchased the newspaper 'l'Unità'.
