Early Life and Career

David Dzhordzhikia Dzhioev Dzozuashvili was born in Georgia on December 8, 1947. He began his football career with FC Torpedo Kutaisi's youth academy before joining Dinamo Tbilisi in 1963. However, he struggled to break into the first team and returned to Torpedo Kutaisi in 1965. In 1968, he was invited back to Dinamo Tbilisi and established himself as a skilled defender, earning a place in the Soviet Union national team.

International and Domestic Success

From 1969 to 1974, Dzozuashvili made 49 appearances for the Soviet Union national team and was part of the squad that won the silver medal at the 1972 European Championships and the bronze medal at the 1972 Olympics. In the domestic league, he played 301 matches and scored 5 goals.

Coaching Career

After retiring from playing in 1976, Dzozuashvili began his coaching career with SKA Tbilisi. He later coached Dinamo Tbilisi and Metallurg Rustavi in Georgia before taking charge of Temp Shepetovka in Ukraine. In 1997, he became the coach of the Latvian national team and led them to some notable victories.

International Coaching

Dzozuashvili also had stints as coach of the Georgian national team and the Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad. In 2000, he was appointed as head coach of Locomotive Tbilisi and won the Georgian Cup with the team. He also had coaching roles with Uralan Elista, Alania Vladikavkaz, Dinamo Makhachkala, and FC Skonto.

Later Career and Legacy

In his later years, Dzozuashvili served as vice-president of FC Skonto and advisor to the president of the Latvian Football Federation. He also had a brief spell as coach of Torpedo Kutaisi before joining FC Olimpia Rustavi in December 2006. Under his leadership, Olimpia Rustavi won the Georgian championship for the first time in the club's history. Dzozuashvili retired from coaching in 2008.

Family

David Dzozuashvili is married, and his wife is the aunt of Vladimir Gutsaev's wife. Their son, Mikhail, is a FIFA agent who helped facilitate the transfer of Georgian players to major clubs in Russia.
