Biography of Richard Ayoade
Richard Ayoade is an English actor and director, best known for his roles in the television series "Garth Marenghi's Darkplace" and "The IT Crowd". He was born in Whipps Cross, London, and was the only child of a Norwegian mother and a Nigerian father. Ayoade's family later moved to Ipswich, Suffolk, where he attended college. While studying at St Catharine's College, Cambridge, Ayoade received an award for directing a play and served as the president of the renowned student theater group "Footlights".

Early Career
During his time as president, Ayoade actively participated in the theater, both as an actor and a writer. He collaborated with his fellow "Footlights" member Matthew Holness on the script for the project "Garth Marenghi's Fright Knight". Their work on the project earned Ayoade the "Perrier Comedy" award in 2001. In 2004, Ayoade and Holness brought their fictional creation Garth Marenghi to television with the parody thriller "Garth Marenghi's Darkplace" on Channel 4. Ayoade not only directed the series but also played one of the roles.

Breakthrough Role
In 2001, Ayoade had a role in an episode of the radio project "The Boosh". The radio series later transitioned to television, but Ayoade was unable to participate in the filming due to his involvement in another project. He appeared in the pilot episode and then handed over his role to his colleague from "Garth Marenghi's Darkplace" and later "The IT Crowd", Matt Berry. Ayoade returned to the series in the second season, playing the character Shaman Sabu and actively contributing to the scriptwriting.

The IT Crowd and Beyond
Ayoade gained true fame for his role as Maurice Moss in the comedy series "The IT Crowd". Although the series had a relatively short run, with only four seasons of six episodes each, it achieved considerable success. In 2009, Ayoade reprised his role as Moss in the pilot episode of the American version of the show, but it did not replicate the success of the British version and remained as a standalone episode.
Directorial Debut
In 2010, Ayoade made his directorial debut with the feature film "Submarine", based on the novel of the same name by Joe Dunthorne. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and received positive reviews. It was later released in North America, followed by screenings at the London Film Festival and a theatrical release in the UK. "Submarine" marked Ayoade's first full-length directorial work, although he had previously directed music videos for various artists.
Recent Projects
In 2012, Ayoade appeared alongside Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, and Jonah Hill in the comedy film "The Watch". He is set to direct the upcoming comedy film "Double". Ayoade continues to showcase his talents both in front of and behind the camera, establishing himself as a versatile actor and director in the entertainment industry.
