Biography of Richard Pratt

Richard Pratt, the chairman of the private company "Visy Industries," was born on March 12, 1934, in the town of Free City. He comes from a family of Polish ethnic Jews, and a few years after his birth, his family moved to Shepperton.

Pratt attended Grahamvale Primary School and then Shepperton Secondary School before continuing his education at the University High School. In 1953, he enrolled at the University of Melbourne, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science and Arts degree.

Throughout his life, Richard had a passion for football and even played for the Australian Football team, achieving great success. In 1953, he was awarded the Morrish Medal for being the best and most skilled player.

After completing his studies at the University, Richard briefly worked in his father's company, Visy Industries. However, he soon left to embark on a journey of travel. Upon his return, he took over the family business and, following his father's death, became the head of the company. Under Richard Pratt's leadership, Visy Industries expanded from two small factories in Melbourne to 55 large enterprises in Australia, the United States, New Zealand, and Papua New Guinea. The company is now involved in the production of cardboard, various types of cardboard packaging, and paper waste management and recycling.

Richard Pratt is not only a prominent entrepreneur but also a philanthropist and community leader. He served as the Chancellor of the Swinburne University of Technology Foundation, President of the Victorian Arts Centre Trust, and Chairman of the Board at the Mental Health Research Institute of Victoria. Additionally, Richard and his family established the Pratt Foundation, through which they generously support numerous organizations and institutions.

With an estimated personal fortune of approximately $2.1 billion, Richard Pratt has been recognized by Forbes magazine as one of the most influential people on the planet. In 2007, he was listed as one of the three wealthiest individuals in Australia.
