Richard Burgin

Richard Burgin is an American writer and editor. He is the son of violinists Richard Burgin and Ruth Posselt.

Education and Career

Burgin graduated from Brandeis University. He has taught at Tufts University, the University of California, Santa Barbara, and is currently a professor at Saint Louis University.

His writings have appeared in The Washington Post, The Chicago Tribune, The New York Times Book Review, Partisan Review, and other publications. He was a columnist for The Boston Globe.

Literary Contributions

Burgin founded and was the first editor of Boston Review and New York Arts Journal. In 1985, he founded Boulevard, a literary magazine.

He has published several works of fiction, including the novel "Ghost Quartet" (1999) and short story collections such as "Man Without Memory" (1989), "Private Fame" (1991), "Fear of Blue Skies" (1999), and "The Identity Club" (2006). Five of Burgin's stories have received the Pushcart Prize.

Interviews and Compilations

Burgin compiled and edited books of interviews with literary figures, including "Conversations with Jorge Luis Borges" (1969) and "Conversations with Isaac Bashevis Singer" (1985). These compilations have been translated into multiple languages.
