Richie Ashburn was an American athlete, a baseball player, and a center fielder in the Major League Baseball. Fans and colleagues called him "Whitey" because of his blond hair. Richie Ashburn was born on March 19, 1927, in Nebraska, United States of America. From a young age, the future baseball player grew up on a farm, played baseball, and dreamed of becoming famous throughout America. And it happened. Growing up, Ashburn became not only an excellent professional baseball player, one of the best players of the Philadelphia Phillies but also one of the brightest sports figures in the history of Philadelphia baseball. A special period in Richie's sports career was the stage with the Philadelphia Phillies - Ashburn spent twelve seasons out of fifteen there. From his first appearances on the field, the athlete demonstrated a natural ability to get out of the most difficult situations - thanks to his athletic ingenuity, the team often achieved success. In fact, during the 1950s, Richie Ashburn was at the peak of his popularity. His talent lay not only in his perfect baseball skills and mastery but also in his professional intuition and ability to predict the outcome of competitions. Sometimes he commented on baseball games and occasionally provided masterclasses to aspiring players on various sports topics. A significant year in Richie Ashburn's baseball career was 1962 when he was invited to join the New York Mets team. The season was quite successful on one hand and a complete disappointment on the other. At the end of this season, Richie decided to retire from professional baseball. In 1963, Ashburn turned to radio and also began to appear frequently on television. He excelled at commentating games, and his fans enjoyed listening to the original and always resourceful Richie. Richie Ashburn's sports and creative activities were repeatedly recognized and rewarded. Particularly honorable was his induction into the Hall of Fame as a veteran of the game. Richie Ashburn passed away at the age of seventy in New York. He died of a heart attack after commentating on a Phillies-Mets game. Hundreds of fans accompanied the baseball player on his final journey.
