Biography of Robert Canetti

Robert Canetti is a violinist and conductor who received his musical education in Israel. At the age of 20, he became a soloist for the Israeli Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Harry Bertoia. He later trained at The Juilliard School of Music in New York. He has performed with the New York Opera and served as concertmaster for the Culowhee Music Festival in North Carolina. Canetti also founded the Hebrew Art School String Quartet in New York. In 1978, he accepted an invitation to return to Israel and served as a soloist and conductor for the Haifa Symphony Orchestra for the next thirteen years. In 1996, he founded the New Israeli Chamber Ensemble, which encompasses a wide range of musical styles from baroque to contemporary.

Canetti has visited Russia twice before. His first performance in Moscow was at the III Moscow International Arts Festival named after Solomon Mikhoels in 2002. He recently returned from a tour in Novosibirsk, where he experienced extremely cold temperatures, which were quite unusual for him.

Israeli music always carries the influence of Eastern musical traditions, including in classical music.
