Biography of Robert Engoyan
Former Member of the Parliament of ArmeniaRobert Nersesovich Engoyan (Armenian: Ռոբերտ Ներսեսովիչ Ենգոյան, born June 15, 1932, Gyumri) is a former member of the Parliament of Armenia. He graduated from the Mechanical Faculty of the Yerevan Polytechnic Institute from 1950 to 1955, specializing in engineering and mechanics. Engoyan is an engineer-mechanic and has received numerous awards and honors throughout his career. He was awarded the State Prize of the Armenian SSR in 1972 and was honored with the "Order of Friendship" in 1981, as well as the Anania Shirakatsi Medal in 2000.
Early Career
From 1962 to 1965, Engoyan pursued his doctoral studies at the Experimental Research Institute of Metal Cutting Machines under the Ministry of Machine Building and Tool Industry of the USSR. He earned the degree of Candidate of Technical Sciences during this period. Engoyan began his professional career by working as a senior engineer at a radio plant in Vladimir from 1955 to 1957. He then became the head of a department at the Yerevan Hydro Turbine Plant from 1957 to 1960 and the head of a department at a milling machine plant from 1960 to 1962. From 1962 to 1975, Engoyan served as the director of the experimental plant "Armstank."
Leadership Roles
Engoyan held several leadership positions throughout his career. From 1975 to 1982, he served as the general director of the Yerevan Machine Tool Association. In 1982, he became the director of the Kanaker Aluminum Plant and in 1994, he served as the chairman of CJSC "Kanaz." Engoyan was also actively involved in politics and served as a member of the Parliament from 1995 to 1999. He was a member of the Permanent Committee on Finance, Credit, Budget, and Economic Affairs and belonged to the "Republican" faction. In 1996, Engoyan was elected as a full member of the Engineering Academy of Armenia and became an academician of the International Engineering Academy in 2002.
Later Career
Since 2000, Engoyan has been the chairman of the board of directors of the Armenian-Russian enterprise "Armenal." He also served as a member of the Parliament again from 1999 to 2003, this time as a member of the Permanent Committee on Foreign Relations. Throughout his career, Engoyan has been recognized for his contributions to engineering and industry, and his leadership roles have made a significant impact on the development of Armenia's manufacturing sector. He is regarded as a respected figure in both the engineering and political communities in Armenia.
