Robert Ficoserved as Prime Minister of Slovakia twice: from 2006 to 2010 and again from 2012 to 2018.

First Term (2006-2010)

After his center-left party Smer-SD won the 2006 parliamentary elections, Fico formed a governing coalition and succeeded Mikuláš Dzurinda as Prime Minister. In 2010, he resigned following the June 12 parliamentary elections. President Ivan Gašparovič tasked Fico with forming a second government, but he failed to secure a majority, and Iveta Radičová became the new Prime Minister.

Second Term (2012-2016)

Following Smer-SD's victory in the snap parliamentary elections on April 4, 2012, Fico was commissioned to form a government. It became Slovakia's first single-party government since independence. Fico led Smer-SD to another victory in the 2016 parliamentary elections, but the party fell short of an absolute majority with 49 seats out of 150. Fico formed a coalition government.

Resignation (2018)

In March 2018, Fico resigned in the wake of the murder of journalist Ján Kuciak and his fiancée. Kuciak had been investigating tax fraud and the connections between the Italian organized crime syndicate 'Ndrangheta and the Slovak political establishment. The journalist's murder sparked mass protests in Slovak cities, demanding Fico's resignation.
