Early Life

Bill Burr was born in Medford, Massachusetts, on May 10, 1968. He grew up in a modest Irish Catholic household with 13 family members crammed into a three-bedroom home. A self-professed troublemaker, he began drinking at the tender age of 10. However, at 15, he turned his life around by quitting alcohol and drugs, a sobriety he has maintained ever since.

Stand-up Comedy Beginnings

Burr discovered stand-up comedy in 1987 while attending an Alcoholics Anonymous International Convention. Inspired by comedic albums, he performed his first set in 1991 as part of the "Al-n-onymous" comedy troupe. Although he initially planned to pursue art at Bunker Hill Community College, he eventually dropped out in favor of comedy.

Early Struggles and Career

Burr worked various jobs before committing to stand-up full-time, including waiting tables, delivering flowers, and working with juvenile delinquents. After his comedy troupe dissolved in the early 1990s, he took a two-year hiatus from stand-up. In 1998, he moved to New York City with an agent's encouragement and immersed himself in the comedy scene.

Television and Film Appearances

Burr's television debut came in 2004 on the "Opie and Anthony" radio show. In 2010, he joined the cast of FX's "Louie" as Louie C.K.'s brother for three seasons. He has also appeared in the 2008 comedy "Ghost Town" and voiced a character in the video game "Grand Theft Auto IV" the same year.

The "You Know What Dude!" Podcast

In 2010, Burr launched his popular podcast, "You Know What Dude!," which airs weekly from the Comedy Cellar in New York City. The podcast features candid conversations with fellow comedians, often focusing on the honest and unfiltered aspects of the comedy world.

Other Projects and Ventures

In 2012, Burr, Bert Kreischer, and Joe DeRosa published a humorous book titled "Cheat: A Man's Guide to Infidelity." He also released his first stand-up comedy special, "Live at the Village Underground," in 2014, directed by Bobcat Goldthwait. Burr's comedy has also been featured on "The Tonight Show with Carson Daly," "Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn," and "Premium Blend."

Personal Life

Burr married Dora Spengemann in 2013, and they have one son together. In 2015, the family relocated from New York City to Westchester County, New York.
