Early Life and Education

Robert Luketic, an acclaimed Australian filmmaker, was born on November 1, 1973, in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. His passion for filmmaking ignited at a tender age when his film won the ATOM Award for Best Film. At 15, he resolved to direct a major Hollywood film by the age of 30. Luketic's artistic journey took a purposeful turn in 1994 when he gained admission to the prestigious Victorian College of the Arts School of Film and Television. For three years, he honed his skills with support from AVID Technology and Samuelson Film Services.

Short Film Success

In 1996, Luketic directed and wrote the comedy short "Titsiana Booberini," which follows the heartwarming tale of a supermarket cashier who transforms from an "ugly duckling." The film earned accolades, including the Queen Elizabeth II Award for Excellence and the Best Film award at the Aspen Shortsfest. The success of "Titsiana Booberini" propelled Luketic into the limelight, catching the attention of agents and studios alike.

Hollywood Debut

Driven by his dream to penetrate the Hollywood film industry, Luketic relocated to Los Angeles. After two years of scriptwriting, he fulfilled his promise to himself by directing the lighthearted comedy "Legally Blonde" in 2001 at the age of 29. Starring Reese Witherspoon, the film soared at the box office and garnered nominations for a Golden Globe Award and a Teen Choice Award.

Commercial Successes

Luketic's subsequent projects continued to generate commercial success. His 2004 comedy "Win a Date with Tad Hamilton!" paved the way for "Monster-in-Law" in 2005, starring Jennifer Lopez as a woman grappling with her fiancé's overbearing mother (Jane Fonda). Embarking on a different genre, Luketic helmed "21" in 2008, based on Ben Mezrich's "Bringing Down the House." The film narrates the true story of students who devised a mathematical system to win millions in Vegas casinos, featuring Kevin Spacey, Jim Sturgess, and Laurence Fishburne.

Recent Collaborations

In 2009, Luketic directed the romantic comedy "The Ugly Truth" with Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler. He is currently collaborating with Heigl again in the action-comedy "Killers," which also stars Ashton Kutcher. Luketic resides in Los Angeles with his dog, Philip.
