Roberto Hernandez Ramirez is a Mexican businessman who has held various leadership positions in the banking industry. He was previously the CEO of Banco Nacional de Mexico, the second largest bank in Mexico. Currently, he is a member of the leadership team at Citigroup.

Education and early career

Ramirez received his education at the Ibero-American University, where he obtained a bachelor's degree in business administration in 1964. In 1971, he co-founded Acciones y Valores de Mexico, a financial services company. In 1974, Ramirez made history by becoming the youngest president ever of the Mexican Stock Exchange.

Philanthropy and business ventures

In 1989, Ramirez became the president of FICSAC, an organization focused on raising funds for the construction of a new Ibero-American University. In 1991, he, along with Alfredo Harp Helu, purchased Banamex, a major Mexican financial institution. The merger of Banamex with Ramirez's existing company resulted in the creation of the financial group Banamex-Accival, where Ramirez served on the board of directors.

In 1993, Ramirez became the president of FUNED, a Mexican scientific and educational foundation. In 1997, he took on the role of director at Banamex. Additionally, Ramirez became involved in the museum sector, leading the MUNAL 2000 program and serving as the president of a local fund supporting higher education institutions.

Continued success and philanthropic efforts

In 2001, Banamex-Accival was sold to Citigroup. Despite the change in ownership, Ramirez maintained his position as a member of Citigroup's board of directors. Throughout his career, Ramirez has built a network of valuable connections and in 2002, he joined the International Advisory Committee of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

In the same year, Ramirez established two new charitable foundations. Currently, alongside his active entrepreneurial and managerial activities, he is heavily involved in various philanthropic endeavors. He particularly sponsors educational projects, medical organizations, and environmental initiatives. Ramirez also dedicates resources to supporting artists and promoting Mexican art, for which he received the Hispanic Society Medal in 2005 from the New York-based organization.
