The Extraordinary Life of Stewie, the World's Longest Cat
A Remarkable BeginningRobin Hendrickson, the cherished owner of the world's longest cat, St. Mymains Stewart Gilligan, affectionately known as Stewie, witnessed the awe-inspiring Maine Coons at an exhibition in 2000. Captivated by their gentle nature, Robin spent years seeking the perfect feline companion.
Dreams Fulfilled
In 2005, Robin's dream came true when she stumbled upon two adorable silver-shaded Maine Coons from Val Horton's cattery. She named them Odin and Stewie, falling head over heels in love upon first sight.
A Star in the Making
While Odin showed no interest in the limelight, Stewie embraced the world of cat shows. He basked in the adoration of fans and exuded a playful charm.
A Record-Breaking Discovery
Determined to uncover the size range of Maine Coons, Robin embarked on an internet search in 2007. She was astonished to learn that the largest known cat at the time measured 122 cm in length. Curious, she measured Stewie and discovered he surpassed that record.
Guinness World Records Verification
Emboldened by her findings, Robin submitted an application to Guinness World Records. On August 28, 2010, Stewie was officially measured by Guinness representatives and confirmed to be 123 cm long from nose to tail, earning him the title of the World's Longest Cat.
A Triumph and a Heartbreaking Loss
Not long after, it was revealed that Stewie also possessed the world's longest cat tail, measuring 41.5 cm. However, Christmas 2011 brought tragedy when Stewie fell ill. Despite initial treatments, a devastating diagnosis of cancer followed. Robin fought tirelessly for her beloved companion, but after undergoing radiation and chemotherapy, Stewie's cancer returned with a vengeance in July 2012.
A Farewell Tribute
In January 2013, Stewie made a special appearance on TNCC's Portland television show, a fitting farewell for a cat who cherished human interaction. Sadly, Stewie passed away in February 2013, leaving Robin heartbroken but eternally grateful for their time together.
A Lasting Legacy
To this day, Stewie's record of 123 cm as the World's Longest Cat remains unbroken, a testament to his exceptional size and the unbreakable bond he shared with his loving guardian, Robin Hendrickson.
