Early Life and EducationRod Blagojevich was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1956 to a working-class family. His father, an immigrant from Serbia, instilled a strong work ethic in his son. From an early age, Blagojevich earned money for his family by working as a meat packer and dishwasher. He attended Chicago Vocational High School and later received a bachelor's degree and Juris Doctor from Northwestern University.
Early Career
Upon graduating from law school, Blagojevich worked as an assistant prosecutor in the Cook County State's Attorney's Office. In 1992, he entered politics and was elected to the Illinois House of Representatives, where he focused on law enforcement, crime prevention, and education.
U.S. Congress
In 1996, Blagojevich was elected to the U.S. Congress. During his time in the House of Representatives, he served on the Judiciary Committee and supported legislation on criminal justice, law enforcement, and environmental protection.
Governor of Illinois
In 2002, Blagojevich ran for governor of Illinois and won a close election. He was re-elected in 2006. As governor, he focused on education, healthcare, and economic development. However, his administration was marred by corruption allegations.
