Biography of Rod Steiger
Rodney Stephen Steiger was an American film actor, born in Newark, New Jersey. He graduated from the Actors Studio in New York and studied at the New School's Dramatic Workshop. Steiger made his film debut in 1951 in the movie "Teresa" and has continued to act in films ever since. He was awarded an Oscar and a Golden Globe, showcasing his talent in both complex dramatic roles and comedies and westerns. Some of his most well-known films include "In the Heat of the Night" directed by Norman Jewison, "The Pawnbroker" directed by Sidney Lumet, "The Last Days of Mussolini" directed by Carlo Lizzani, and "Hands Over the City" directed by Francesco Rosi. Steiger currently resides in California, near Malibu, and has a young son.
