Roddy Doyle, an acclaimed Irish author, was born in 1958 in Dublin, Ireland. He attended St. Fintan's Christian Brothers School in Sutton and later pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree from the National University of Ireland in Dublin. For 14 years, Doyle worked as a geography teacher in Kilbarrick, a suburb of Dublin.

Literary Breakthrough and Success

In 1987, Doyle's novel "The Commitments" skyrocketed his literary career. The novel was adapted into a film three years later. In 1993, his novel "Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha" won the prestigious Booker Prize and was translated into 19 languages.

Doyle's writing is characterized by its use of dialogue, jargon, and colloquial language. He portrays ordinary people from the "typical third-world country" he calls Ireland.
